Hyperpigmentation & Dark Spots Serum - SENSE OF LUMINE 30ml
A night-time oil serum formulated for melanin-rich skin to fade stubborn dark spots, post-acne marks and uneven tone, using argan, jojoba, frankincense, lemon and carrot seed oils that target tyrosinase activity at the source.
What is SENSEOFLUMINE?
SENSEOFLUMINE is a 30ml night-time oil serum specifically formulated to correct hyperpigmentation on melanin-rich skin, where traditional brightening ingredients often cause more inflammation and more dark spots than they fade. The formula combines six botanicals, each targeting a different mechanism of melanin overproduction.
How it works
Argan oil and jojoba oil form the barrier-friendly base, delivering vitamin E and essential fatty acids that support skin repair while reducing the inflammation that triggers new pigmentation. Frankincense oil is a documented tyrosinase inhibitor that also accelerates cellular turnover, helping pigmented cells reach the surface faster so they can be shed. Lemon oil and carrot seed oil both inhibit tyrosinase activity through complementary pathways, with carrot seed oil adding beta-carotene as an extra antioxidant. Vitamin E stabilises the formula and neutralises the free radicals produced during natural skin repair.
Because lemon and carrot seed oils are photosensitising, SENSEOFLUMINE is applied exclusively at night. This is a feature, not a limitation. It allows the actives to work undisturbed during the skin's natural repair phase, while a daytime SPF prevents any photosensitivity reaction.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
SENSEOFLUMINE is a night-only serum. Never apply in the morning and never go into direct sun for at least 12 hours after application.
Evening routine:
1. Cleanse your face thoroughly with a gentle cleanser or the REASONTOGLOW turmeric soap.
2. Pat the skin until slightly damp, not wet.
3. Dispense 3 to 4 drops into your palm and warm between your hands.
4. Press gently across the face, focusing on areas with dark spots. Do not rub. Press and hold 10 to 20 seconds on each pigmented zone.
5. Avoid the eye contour, the mouth and any broken skin.
6. Leave on overnight. No rinsing.
The morning after:
- Cleanse your face as usual.
- Apply your morning routine (serum, moisturiser).
- Apply SPF 30 or higher as the final step, every single morning. This is non-negotiable. Without daily SPF, the photosensitising actives from the night before will worsen the pigmentation rather than fade it.
Frequency: every evening, consistently. Missing 2 to 3 evenings per week is enough to slow your visible results by 3 to 4 weeks.
Storage: in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Natural oils degrade under light exposure. -
SENSEOFLUMINE is formulated for adults with melanin-rich skin (Fitzpatrick types III to VI) who are dealing with:
- Persistent post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from past acne, ingrown hairs, eczema or skin trauma.
- Sun spots or age spots that have not responded to gentler treatments.
- Uneven skin tone, dullness, or patchy pigmentation that makes makeup application harder.
- Stubborn dark spots that remain three months or more after the original blemish has healed.
Who should be cautious: people who are pregnant or breastfeeding (carrot seed oil is not recommended during these periods), people on photosensitising medication (including some antibiotics, retinoids and oral contraceptives), people with open wounds or active eczema on the face. Always perform a 24-hour patch test on the side of the neck before first facial application. -
- Weeks 1 to 2: skin feels softer, more supple in the morning. No visible change on dark spots yet. This is normal. The actives are accumulating and starting to regulate melanin activity at the cellular level.
- Weeks 3 to 4: overall complexion appears slightly more radiant. The edges of recent dark spots may begin to soften.
- Weeks 6 to 8: visible fading of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from recent acne. Sun spots may start to lighten. Skin texture noticeably smoother.
- Months 3 to 6: significant reduction of older or deeper pigmentation. Overall tone visibly more even.
Important: results depend entirely on nightly consistency and daily SPF use. Without SPF, the photosensitising actives from SENSEOFLUMINE will trigger new pigmentation rather than fade existing marks. The morning SPF is part of the SENSEOFLUMINE protocol, not an optional extra. -
If you experience any irritation or allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately. It is always recommended to perform a patch test before using any new hair or skin care product, especially if you have a history of sensitivity or allergy. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. Keep out of reach of children.

What Each Ingredient Does
- Argan oil: rich in vitamin E and linoleic acid, supports the skin barrier while gently inhibiting melanogenesis. A 2013 dermatological study demonstrated its effect on melanin production in melanoma cells.
- Jojoba oil: mimics the skin's natural sebum, delivering moisture without clogging pores. Its anti-inflammatory properties calm the reactive skin environment that drives PIH in melanin-rich complexions.
- Vitamin E: powerful antioxidant that neutralises free radicals generated during cellular repair. Works synergistically with argan and jojoba to stabilise the formula and extend its shelf-life.
- Lemon oil: contains natural alpha-hydroxy acids that gently exfoliate the outermost layer of pigmented skin cells. Also inhibits tyrosinase. Photosensitising, strictly night-use only.
- Carrot seed oil: carotol and limonene content inhibits tyrosinase activity while beta-carotene brightens dull complexions. Also photosensitising, reinforcing the night-only application.
- Frankincense oil: accelerates cellular turnover and inhibits tyrosinase through a different enzymatic pathway to lemon oil, creating a layered effect on melanin production.

Why can I only use SENSEOFLUMINE at night?
Lemon oil and carrot seed oil contain furanocoumarins, compounds that make the skin more reactive to UV light. Applied during the day, they can trigger phototoxic reactions and worsen the pigmentation you are trying to fade. Applied at night, the actives work safely during your skin's natural repair cycle, and a daytime SPF the next morning prevents any residual photosensitivity.
Can I use SENSEOFLUMINE with the SENSEOFBRIGHTNESS Vitamin C Serum?
Yes, the two products are designed to complement each other in a 24-hour strategy. Apply SENSEOFBRIGHTNESS in the morning (water-based, photo-safe) followed by SPF. Apply SENSEOFLUMINE at night. Both inhibit tyrosinase through different pathways, reinforcing each other without overlap or irritation.
Can I use it on my body?
Yes. SENSEOFLUMINE can be applied to dark patches on the body such as inner thighs, underarms, knees, elbows and the bikini line. Apply at night, do not expose the treated area to direct sunlight for at least 12 hours, and cover with clothing during daytime if outdoor exposure is unavoidable.
Will SENSEOFLUMINE bleach my skin?
No. SENSEOFLUMINE does not contain hydroquinone or any bleaching agent. It works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for melanin overproduction in inflamed or sun-damaged areas. Your natural skin tone is not affected. Dark spots fade back to your baseline complexion, not below it.
How long before I see real results?
Most users notice a more even and radiant complexion between weeks 3 and 4. Fading of recent post-inflammatory dark spots becomes visible between weeks 6 and 8. Older or deeper hyperpigmentation requires 3 to 6 months of consistent nightly use. Sun spots often take longer than PIH.
Is SENSEOFLUMINE safe during pregnancy?
We do not recommend SENSEOFLUMINE during pregnancy or breastfeeding, due to the carrot seed oil content, which is not advised for these periods. Consult your doctor or midwife before using any new active product while pregnant or nursing.
Can I use it on sensitive skin?
The formula is gentle, free from alcohol, synthetic fragrance and harsh exfoliants, but it contains three essential oils (lemon, carrot seed, frankincense) that can be reactive on very sensitive skin. Always perform a 24-hour patch test behind the ear or on the inner forearm before first facial application. If you experience stinging, redness or irritation that does not subside within 10 minutes of application, discontinue use.
Can I combine SENSEOFLUMINE with a retinol serum?
Not in the same routine step. Alternate nights is the safer approach: SENSEOFLUMINE on nights 1, 3, 5, retinol (such as SENSEOFREVIVE) on nights 2, 4, 6. Combining two strong actives on the same night on melanin-rich skin increases the risk of irritation, which is the primary trigger of new post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. -
